Where to Buy Silver Jewellery in Egypt (and How to Avoid Getting Cheated)

Naggat Silver · 925 Sterling Silver · Updated October 2026

Searching for a silver shop near me usually means something more specific than the words suggest. The real question is not where to buy. It is who to trust.

Buying silver in Egypt means sorting real from plated, and most buyers have either been burned before or know someone who has. A shop that exists is not the same as a shop that will sell you actual 925.

So this covers both: where to actually buy, and the checks that stop you overpaying for something that is not silver.

Short answer: Buy silver online in Egypt if you want the lowest price, because there is no mall rent in the margin. Buy from a physical shop if you need to inspect the stamp yourself before paying. Either way, insist on the 925 hallmark, and check the magnet test before money changes hands.

Online vs physical shop in Egypt

Online Physical shop
Price Lower, no shop rent in the margin Higher for the same piece
Range Full catalogue, no shelf limits Only what is in stock that day
Inspect before paying Only if the seller sends photos Yes
Delivery 2 to 5 working days Immediate
Returns Depends on the seller's policy Usually harder

Online wins on price and range. A physical shop wins on inspection. If authenticity doubt is the thing keeping you up, pay the shop premium once and learn what real silver looks and feels like.

How to tell real silver from plated metal

Four checks, and you can run all of them in under a minute.

The stamp. Real sterling silver is stamped 925, sometimes S925 or STERLING. The number means 92.5% pure silver. If there is no stamp anywhere on the piece, that is your answer.

The magnet. Silver is not magnetic. If a magnet pulls on the piece, it is plated base metal underneath. This test will not confirm the purity, but it catches the worst fakes instantly.

The smell. Rub it between your fingers. Silver has almost no smell. Plated brass and copper take on a metallic, slightly sour smell as they warm up.

The weight. Silver feels heavier than it looks. Plated pieces are usually hollow and noticeably light for their size.

There is a longer version of this in our guide to identifying real silver.

The vinegar test, and its limits: a drop of vinegar on real silver does nothing much. On plated metal it can leave a dull mark or a faint reaction. It is a rough signal, not proof, and it can mark the piece. Try it on the inside of a band rather than the visible face.

What silver actually costs in Egypt

Price is the fastest reality check. Genuine 925 silver jewellery in Egypt generally starts around 300 to 500 EGP for a simple bracelet and climbs from there.

If someone offers you a heavy silver ring for 80 EGP, the metal is not silver. That price does not cover the raw material, before any labour.

Rough guide to what we charge, so you have a reference point:

  • 300 - 550 EGP simple silver bracelets, knot designs, bar keychains
  • 999 - 1,400 EGP stone-set rings, tennis sliders, name necklaces
  • 1,400 - 2,700 EGP heavier pieces, tennis bracelets, photo lockets
  • 3,000 EGP and up couple sets and stone-set occasion pieces

Anyone quoting far below these bands on a piece with real weight is selling you plating.

Why gold-plated silver is a trap

Gold-plated silver is a real product and it is not automatically dishonest, but it wears badly and sellers rarely say so.

The plating is measured in microns, and on cheap pieces it is thin. Daily wear rubs it off within months, usually first at the edges and the clasp, and what is left underneath is uneven. Once the plating goes, you cannot restore it at home.

If you want the gold look, buy solid gold. If you want silver, buy silver and let it look like silver. Plated pieces exist to sell a look at a price the look does not actually survive.

What to ask before you pay

Any seller worth buying from will answer these without hesitating. The hesitation is the information.

  • Is this stamped 925, and can I see a close-up of the stamp?
  • Is this solid silver or plated?
  • What is the return policy if it turns out not to be silver?
  • Do you have a physical address or a verifiable business presence?

A seller who will not send a photo of the hallmark is telling you something useful. Believe it and move on.

Buying online without getting burned

Three habits cut most of the risk.

Ask for a photo of the actual piece. Not a stock image. Any real seller can photograph the item they are about to ship, stamp included.

Check that the return policy exists in writing. A policy mentioned in chat is not a policy. It should be on the site.

Start with one small piece. Buy a bracelet first. Test the quality and the shipping, then buy the expensive thing from a seller who has already proven themselves.

Our own range is in the full collection, and everything there is 925 sterling silver.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy real silver jewellery in Egypt?

Online sellers generally offer the lowest prices and the widest range. Physical shops let you inspect the hallmark before paying. In both cases, ask for a photo of the 925 stamp and run the magnet test before you commit.

How do I know if silver is real?

Check for the 925 hallmark, test with a magnet, and judge the weight. Silver is not magnetic and feels heavier than plated metal. If there is no stamp and a magnet grabs it, it is not sterling silver.

Is 925 silver the same as sterling silver?

Yes, they are the same thing. Sterling means 92.5% pure silver, which is what the 925 stamp records. The two terms are interchangeable.

Why is silver so cheap in some shops in Egypt?

Because it is not silver. Plated brass and stainless with a silver finish cost a fraction of the real thing. A price far below the metal's actual value is the clearest signal there is.

Do you have a physical shop?

We sell online, which is how we keep prices down and reach every governorate. Shipping runs 2 to 5 working days, and we will send photos of the actual piece on request.

How long does delivery take in Egypt?

Two to five working days for most governorates. Cairo, Giza and Alexandria usually arrive next day or within 48 hours.
